Tournament in a Box (2014-2015, 2013-2014)
SMaRT's robotics program introduces students to robotics and engineering on a competitive platform. They will build and program robots to navigate a competitive obstacle course after an extensive design and test season. SMaRT Education will host free workshops on design, engineering, and programming. They also will create a "Mentor Pathway" at four different Coachella Valley high schools, in which high school students mentor those from elementary and middle schools. This program is beneficial in many ways; robotics education directly correlates to academic success. 100% of SMaRT students graduate high school, 92% attend college, and 84% major in a science, technology, engineering, art, or math field.
High school students become the new hosts of annual robotics tournaments, where younger students have the opportunity to showcase their skills. The "Tournament-in-a-Box" program provides robotics teams with sets containing everything they need to host Qualifying Tournaments. This allows students to facilitate a successful event with minimal intervention from SMaRT Education. Ultimately, the SMaRT program allows students to build confidence, learn practical STEM-related skills, and use their skills to feed into future generations.
