Future Ready - Preparing Students for Financial Independence (2026-2027)

Many students in the region come from households with limited access to banking and financial education resources. Future Ready: Preparing Students for Financial Independence is a financial literacy initiative designed to equip high school students in the Eastern Coachella Valley with essential money management skills for adulthood. Financial literacy must be introduced early to build lifelong habits that support financial security and informed decision-making. The program will serve approximately 3,000 students across three local high schools, prioritizing youth from low-income, farmworker, and first-generation households who often lack access to financial education.

Through a structured, culturally responsive curriculum, students will participate in interactive, hands-on workshops focused on real-world financial skills. Topics include budgeting, saving, banking, credit, debt management, interest rates, and responsible financial decision-making. Students will also learn how financial choices impact long-term stability and security.

In addition, the program prepares students for life after high school by covering student loans and financial aid, and by helping them make informed decisions about education, careers, and major purchases. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, goal setting, and the development of healthy financial habits that promote long-term independence.

The need for this program is informed by direct input from high school teachers, school partners, and the Rotary Club of Coachella East, which works closely with educators and the broader community. These partners consistently identify financial literacy as a critical gap, noting that many students graduate without the knowledge needed to manage their finances. The Rotary Club of Coachella East has a strong track record of supporting youth education and community-based initiatives, ensuring this program is grounded in trusted community leadership.

By offering workshops free of charge within school campuses, the program ensures equitable access to financial education. This initiative empowers students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to avoid common financial pitfalls and build a strong foundation for lifelong financial well-being.
