Red Hot Ballroom

After-School Ballroom Dance (2019-2020, 2018-2019, 2017-2018, 2016-2017, 2014-2015, 2013-2014)

Red Hot Ballroom Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides Ballroom and Latin dance instruction to over 1000 children in the 4th through 7th grades at 38 public schools through the entire school year in Coachella Valley, Desert Sands, and Palm Springs Unified School Districts. Red Hot Ballroom will begin its 12th year in September 2019.

Two professional Master Dance instructors work with and teach the after-school teachers on a weekly basis throughout the school year. The teachers work with the students in a well-defined program of instruction in Waltz, Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha and Swing. The teachers are also assisted by our volunteer "Dance Amigos" who visit each school on a regular basis. The students are provided with weekly dance lessons from September through April of each year. Our program culminates in May with a Dance Competition Finals held in each of the three school districts.

Over 96% of the students are part of Title 1 Low Income families. The program is provided at no cost to the families or the school districts. Participation medallions are presented to all students, as well as trophies and awards at all three Dance Competition Finals. Formal dance wear and shoes are provided to each student at no charge for the finals.

Dance and music can shift mood, manage stress, and stimulate positive interactions. Red Hot Ballroom promotes social, emotional and cognitive skills through its framework of Ballroom and Latin dance instruction. We teach good manners, respect for others, and teamwork. Our program helps build self-esteem so that our students can withstand negative peer pressure and become good citizens. All this takes place within a healthy physical activity and an introduction to good music and the Arts.
