Community Food Access & Outreach Expansion (2026-2027)
The Narrow Door’s Community Food Access & Outreach Expansion project increases food security and access to essential resources for underserved children, families, seniors, and individuals throughout the Coachella Valley. Building upon existing outreach efforts that serve thousands of people each month, this project establishes three new community food distribution and outreach locations in underserved areas where access to nutritious food and support services remains limited. Through recurring food distributions, volunteer-led outreach, and strong community partnerships, families receive nutritious food, essential household items, and connections to local resources that promote long-term stability. Supported by one staff member and hundreds of volunteers, The Narrow Door brings food, hope, and practical support directly into neighborhoods where the need is greatest, helping ensure that vulnerable residents have consistent access to essential services and caring relationships.

Food Distribution (2016-2017, 2015-2016)
The Narrow Door provides nutritious foods for families living at or below poverty level in the Western Coachella Valley. A community church in Cathedral City helps to volunteer and distribute food boxes to the community around their church, and we want to expand the amount of food distributed and the number of families that we help. Currently our target geographic area is Cathedral City and Thousand Oaks; in "Arm One" of our long-term plan, we have developed three off-campus sites for food distribution: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, and La Quinta.
In Arm Two, we hope to establish three mobile kitchens: one for food preparation and the other two to provide hot meals throughout the week at sites in both East and West Valley. Arm Three is "Bridging the Gap," which is the volunteer arm: volunteers will help deliver food boxes to families. As a result of our Three Arms of Growth process, we hope to expand our reach as people in need are fed and volunteers become aware of their needs. Relationships will grow between those serving and those being served, which will facilitate positive change across the communities.
