Catalina Science Camp (2024-2025, 2023-2024, 2022-2023, 2019-2020)
This Catalina overnight science camp will give our 5th and 6th grade G.A.T.E. students an opportunity in an environment that they wouldn’t have not experienced otherwise due to their economically challenged households. This unique experience includes learning about the island’s ecosystem and geological history. Also, students will get to touch, classify, examine sharks, and invertebrates that live around the island. In addition, they will study the anatomy of squid and dissect them. Lastly, students will explore the island on a kayak.
Science isn’t always offered in the classroom that often and this trip engages and challenges the students. It may even inspire some to pursue a career in science.
