Preschool Special Education Playground Update (2026-2027)

Katherine Finchy Elementary School (KFES) was honored to receive funding through the Anderson Grant to enhance its Preschool Autism Special Education playground, creating a structured, sensory-rich outdoor learning environment for 3- and 4-year-old students who are often experiencing school for the first time. Grant funds will be used to purchase developmentally appropriate materials, including sensory play equipment, fine- and gross-motor development tools, adaptive tricycles, visual supports, and interactive learning resources that promote communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and early academic readiness. These enhancements will extend classroom learning into the outdoor environment, allowing staff to reinforce IEP goals through meaningful, hands-on experiences while helping students build foundational skills such as language development, peer engagement, motor coordination, and independence. The Anderson Grant investment will have a lasting impact on our students, providing an inclusive and engaging space where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. KFES is committed to sustaining the project through regular maintenance, staff training, integration into daily instructional routines, and the allocation of site resources as needed, ensuring that future preschool students continue to benefit from a supportive learning environment that fosters confidence, independence, and long-term success.
