Grassroots Junior Tennis

Grassroots Junior Tennis (2024-2025, 2023-2024, 2022-2023)

The Grassroots Junior Tennis program provides accessibility to tennis that would otherwise be inaccessible to the under-served children of the Coachella Valley, providing equipment and related clothing. This program reaches across the traditional cultural barriers and is designed to encourage the children and their families to access tennis courts and other recreational opportunities in the public parks. Grassroots has instructed close to 1,000 youth of all socio-economic backgrounds since 2004. The children come from low and middle income and under-resourced families, with 80-90% of the participants being Hispanic. The youth come from the Palm Springs Unified School District where the program is held at the Ruth Hardy Park in Palms Springs. It is designed around the school year with two four-month sessions of 'after school' classes. These classes are offered two times per week for 90-minute lessons. Each session includes 30-35 youth, with a wait-list for additional youth. The youth are provided the opportunity to enhance their integrity and physical abilities, while learning social skills and responsibilities.
