The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, based in Indio, provides emergency food, shelter, transitional housing programs with case management and wrap-around services to men, women and children. CVRM also assists those hovering on the edge of homelessness by providing food boxes, meals, and a cooling / warming center. Every year, CVRM hosts Back to School backpack and Holiday toy giveaways. Last year, over 3000 unduplicated individuals were provided emergency services. Of those, 162 were children with their mothers. Over 80% of these children and their moms went on to live in CVRM Family House. While in residence, mothers participate in CVRM 6-12 month residential programs designed to restore them and their children to the community.

The number of homeless mothers with children arriving at CVRM has increased dramatically. Many reside in the Emergency Annex Shelter while waiting for either a vacancy in the Family House or a referral to other housing.
