Whitebox STEM Program (2022-2023)

Whitebox is a web-based STEM learning platform that allows students to design, analyze,

iterate and simulate designs from a web-browser, then 3D-print to build prototypes that students can put into action. The program works in virtual, in-person or hybrid setting, and encompasses fun and engaging STEM lessons and projects related to green cars (solar-powered), prosthetics, drones, rockets, rovers and robotics.

The experience helps create interest and build STEM foundational knowledge as it levels the playing field for socioeconomically disadvantaged students in this part of Coachella Valley.

Edible Garden & Campus Beautification (2021-2022)

Bobby Duke Middle School is proud to launch a Green Engineering elective for its 7th and 8th grade students during the 2021-2022 school year. Through the Edible Garden and Campus Beautification Project, Green Engineering students will build, plant, maintain, and harvest from raised garden beds on campus, and the campus will come to life with the beautiful colors of lively crops. This unique hands-on experience, paired with curriculum instruction, will well prepare students to enter the agriculture pathway in high school and possibly the agriculture career field. Bobby Duke Middle School Falcons always SOAR, and this project will provide multiple opportunities for students to be Successful, Optimistic, Astonishing, and Responsible.

Engineering Academy (2018-2019, 2017-2018, 2016-2017, 2015-2016)

This program promotes awareness and interest in students to pursue careers in engineering, technology, and related fields through focused, rigorous and relevant experiences in activity-based, project-based and problem-based learning.

Students learn to build and program with various robotic platforms, in addition to learning real-life applications of specialty fields like use of sensors and niche disciplines like pneumatics, solar-powered and wind-powered projects.

This year, underwater robotics, 3D printers and RC cars are new additions to this fun and engaging, standard content-aligned STEM program.

Music Program (2014-2015)

The Bobby Duke Middle School music program serves approximately 150 socioeconomically disadvantaged students in Coachella, California. Band, piano, and choir classes are available to students and all music materials, including instruments, are provided for students. Students learn to read, perform, compose, and appreciate music in these classes. Students also perform for their family, friends, community members, and people outside their community several times each year. The sense of accomplishment students feel, the pride their family members feel, and the smiles students bring to community members faces drive the success of the program. The students and staff of the Bobby Duke Middle School music program are looking forward to continued growth, success, and performance opportunities during the 2014-2015 school years, and for years to come.
