Hip Hop Dance Education (2019-2020)
Everybody Dance Now!'s Inland Empire chapter will mobilize 10 teaching artists to engage underserved, low‑income, majority Latinx and African American students, ages 11‑18, in free, weekly hip hop dance classes, social and emotional learning (SEL), and a culminating Day of Movement. The program helps youth be healthy and active, appreciate local arts/culture, create, and develop skills and resilience. In two 18‑week sessions, EDN!'s hip hop dance classes take place once or twice/week at 10 schools within Palm Springs and Riverside Unified School Districts, providing students: 1‑2 hours of physical activity/week; a platform to foster creative expression and appreciation of the arts; and alternatives to the risks of out‑of‑school me. Day of Movement is a day of youth and professional performances, battles, panels, master classes, and family dance activities.
