Book Vending Machine (2024-2025)
Bubbling Wells Elementary School Book Vending Machine Project - Our elementary school is a Title 1 Elementary School in Desert Hot Springs, CA. The Book Vending Machine project would aid us in providing books to our students so they can build their personal book library. This would also allow us to build an equitable resource for our students and families to have books available at no cost. We feel this project is a great opportunity to aid our school community in building a resource to supply our students with books for them to read for entertainment, improve their reading skills and build a community of readers.
The goal of the ACF Funds is to purchase a book vending machine, tokens for the machine, and books for grade levels TK through 5th grade for the initial stocking of the machine.
We are reliant on ACF for total funds to make this project happen at our school site. Our school community does not have the means to make this happen for our students without a grant funding the whole or most of the project.
Our plan for this project is to keep the book vending machine stocked with books for TK-5th-grade students and their families to build a community of readers and provide equitable access to books for students to keep.

Fitness, Team Building, Sociological & Psychological Activities (2022-2023)
Bubbling Wells Elementary is located in Desert Hot Springs, California. Unfortunately, it is a low socioeconomic area. Diverse students come live at homes which are not privileged and in many, not ideal. Many students at Bubbling Wells lack the social skills required to function and succeed in their future. In our physical education department, we are aware of the needs of students in social emotional learning. Our curriculum is based strongly on psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity. Students participate in these activities that enhance their social skills.
Through our proposed Team Building project, students will have a variety of activities which will enhance their social and emotional learning. These activities include games like "The Floor is Lava," where students use scooters within teams to compete in different team building challenges. This particular game enhances students' social skills by having them work together in accomplishing many different goals. Along with team learning, students will participate in physical activities with these scooter carts that provide moderate intensity fitness.
With our project, other games like pickle-ball will help with building teammates and moderate to high intensity activity. This game will challenge both the mind and body as the students work with partners and compete against others. Speedstacks and beanbag games are games in which students challenge their mind with movement. Both require students to be agile as they focus on a challenge. Fitness testing equipment will make the practice of our statewide mandated test easier and more enjoyable for the students. Since we do not have a large enough room to practice activities like pushups and curl-ups, doing these activities outside is very uncomfortable due to the high heat of the blacktop.
The coronavirus pandemic has left students with the need of social skills. It has also increased the obesity due to lack of physical activity within our population. The use of the equipment acquired through the ACF grant will help students enhance their social skills' needs and help with physical activity to battle obesity.

School of Rock (2019-2020)
This project will serve students at Bubbling Wells Elementary. Students will learn to play instruments found in a Modern Band and perform pop music with and for their peers. Students at Bubbling Wells receive music on a weekly 50-minute basis.
Modern Band is the newest twist in music education. It consists of the instruments you would find in a Rock Band: keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, drum set, and voice. Modern Band allows students to learn music through the songs they already love. Students will also write songs either in the style of a given artist or their own style. Students starting in Transitional-Kindergarten will begin their learning on ukuleles and voice, keyboards in second grade, guitar and bass guitar in fourth, and drum set in fifth. There will also be an after school Rock Band opportunity for fourth and fifth graders for those that just can’t get enough.
